• Alison Kinnaird MBE
  • Work

Alison has been engraving glass for more than 30 years. Her artistic life runs parallel to a career in music; she is equally accomplished as a player of the Scottish Harp. Alison was awarded an MBE in 1997 for her services to art and music. She is also the recipient of many accolades including the Creative Scotland Award and two prestigious Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers awards.

Her work has appeared in numerous articles and books and periodicals and she has taught extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Her most recent work uses dichroic coloured light inside engraved glass panels, and marks a turning point in her artistic development. Alison’s engraving is detailed and intricate and the human figure features as the focal subject. This is achieved by the painstaking copper wheel engraving technique, combined with other methods.

Alison’s work has been acquired by numerous eminent collections including the Royal Museum of Scotland, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Corning Museum of Glass, Ulster Museum, Belfast, and Dundee Art Gallery, Scotland.
