Lucy set up her own glass studio in 2004 after completing her postgraduate degree in Glass and Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art, London. Lucy’s signature works are intricately deep-carved vessels, embellished with intimate floral patterns. Her images glide over the surface of the glass, cutting through one layer of glass to another, revealing hidden colours shining from below the surface.

In her work Lucy strives to breech the void between fine art objects and functional pieces for interiors, as she combines the visual delicacy of intricate patterns with the solidity and practicality of glass vessels. Often beginning the creative process with abstract photography, she transforms her images into a larger scale, making luxuriously textured or coloured kiln-formed glass or intricately detailed etched, printed and sandblasted glass. Lucy has recently been working with the Aaronson Noon Glass Studio to expand her work into hot glass.

“I am drawn to glass as a material because of its unique characteristics. There are endless ways to form and decorate glass, so its creative potentials are vast. Yet it is also a material that had been used for centuries for creating vessels for practical use. I like the idea that the ‘works of art’ that we have in our homes can also be functional objects that we can handle freely. A material with the tactile qualities of glass should be enjoyed by the owner’s hands.”

Lucy has had number of exhibitions in the UK and was chosen by the Crafts Council for the prestigious ‘One Year On’ show in 2005.
